The Human Variable
The Human Variable is the idea that you are the variable, not the model: growth comes from changing what the human brings.
You are the variable, not the model. The model is fixed; what changes is the human bringing themselves to it. Growth happens by changing the variable, not the model. Also the name of the six-week practice.
Related: The Amplified Human · The Mirror Principle
The Map
The lens that scans the world as it actually is. Houses the Domino Index and The System. One of the three lenses of technomystic.ai (Map, Territory, Compass).
Related: The Territory · The Compass · The Domino Index
The Mirror Principle
The Mirror Principle says that what AI returns to you is shaped by what you bring to it.
AI as mirror: what it returns to you is shaped entirely by what you bring to it. The instrument is neutral; the player is not.

Macro & Intelligence Vocabulary
Adaptation Stages
The five psychological phases societies move through when processing major disruptions: Denial, Anxiety, Bargaining, Action, and Adaptation.
ExampleClimate change response: Most countries spent decades in Denial, are currently in Anxiety/Bargaining, with only a few reaching Action stage.
Related: Awareness Lag · Human Adaptation Index
AGI
Artificial General Intelligence—AI systems that can perform any intellectual task a human can do. Unlike narrow AI (which excels at specific tasks), AGI would be a general-purpose thinking machine.
ExampleChatGPT is narrow AI. AGI would be able to do research, write code, make strategic decisions, and learn new domains without retraining.
Related: AI Supremacy · Machine Spiral
AI-Quantum Convergence
The thesis that AI and quantum computing are brothers-in-arms—mutually accelerating technologies. AI solves key physics problems (qubit design, error correction) that speed quantum development. Quantum computers accelerate AI training. Each breakthrough compounds the other.
ExampleGoogle's AI predicts protein structures → same techniques optimize topological qubits → quantum supremacy arrives 5 years early → quantum computing trains better AI models. Classical 2035 timelines compressed to 2028-2030.
Related: AGI · Q-Day · Quantum Yuan
Article 5
The core principle of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) stating that an attack on one member nation is an attack on all. If one NATO country is attacked, all others are obligated to defend it.
ExampleIf Russia attacked Poland (a NATO member), the US, UK, France, and all other NATO countries would be treaty-bound to respond militarily.
Related: NATO Fracture · Alliance Systems
Awareness Lag
The time gap between when a significant event actually occurs and when society collectively recognizes its importance. Most civilizational shifts are only understood in hindsight.
ExampleThe 2008 financial crisis: Lehman Brothers collapsed in September, but most people didn't feel the full impact until 2009-2010.
Related: Intervention Window · Denial Stage
Brier Score
A statistical measure of prediction accuracy, ranging from 0 (perfect) to 1 (completely wrong). Used in superforecasting to track calibration.
ExampleIf you predict 70% chance of rain on 100 days, and it rains on 70 of those days, your Brier score is excellent.
Related: Calibration · Superforecasting
Cascade
A chain reaction where one falling domino triggers the next, creating an accelerating sequence of changes. Unlike isolated events, cascades are interconnected and self-reinforcing.
ExampleAI displaces jobs → unemployment rises → spending drops → businesses fail → more unemployment. Each step accelerates the next.
Related: Domino Index · Systemic Risk
End-State Scenario
One of five possible futures that could emerge after the current cascade completes. These aren't predictions but structured possibilities based on who controls key technologies.
ExampleS1: Coherent Empire, S2: Fractured World, S3: Phoenix Protocol, S4: Black Swan, S5: Machine Spiral.

HAI
Human Adaptation Index—a framework for tracking how societies psychologically respond to major disruptions, measuring awareness, adaptation stage, and intervention windows.
ExampleThe HAI shows that most populations are in the 'Anxiety' stage regarding AI job displacement.
Related: Adaptation Stages · Awareness Lag
Human Adaptation Index
A framework tracking how societies psychologically respond to each domino event. It measures awareness lag, current adaptation stage, and remaining intervention windows.
ExampleFor 'AI Job Displacement', the HAI might show: Awareness = Partial, Stage = Anxiety, Intervention Window = 45% open.
Related: Adaptation Stages · Awareness Lag · Intervention Window
Intervention Window
A limited period of time during which collective action can still alter the trajectory of a cascade or crisis. Once the window closes, the outcome becomes increasingly locked in.
ExampleAfter a financial crisis begins, there's typically a 6-18 month window where policy changes can prevent a full depression.
Related: Adaptation Stage · Awareness Lag
Macro Domino
A macro domino is one of the ten structural pillars the Domino Index tracks, such as truth, trust, institutions or AI.
A large-scale, civilizational-level shift that triggers cascading effects across multiple domains (economic, political, technological). These are the 'big' dominoes that reshape the world order.
ExampleThe rise of AGI, the fracturing of the US-led world order, or a major currency collapse.
Related: Micro Domino · Cascade
Micro Domino
A micro domino is a dated, real-world event that pushes a macro domino, such as a strait closing or a central bank under pressure.
A specific, event-level trigger that either results from or accelerates a macro domino. These are the observable, newsworthy events that signal larger shifts.
ExampleThe US threatening a NATO ally (Denmark over Greenland) is a micro domino signaling the larger 'NATO Fracture' macro shift.
Related: Macro Domino · Trigger Event
NATO
North Atlantic Treaty Organization—a military alliance of 32 countries from North America and Europe. Founded in 1949 to provide collective security against the Soviet Union.
ExampleThe US, UK, France, Germany, and Poland are all NATO members who have agreed to defend each other.
Related: Article 5 · NATO Fracture
Parallel Networks
Alternative systems of communication, trade, finance, or governance that exist alongside (or replace) traditional centralized institutions. When mainstream systems become unreliable, parallel networks allow communities to function independently.
ExampleLocal mutual aid groups, encrypted messaging networks (like Signal), community currencies, or neighborhood emergency response teams.
Related: Decentralization · Resilience
Q-Day
The Great Rupture. The day quantum computers become powerful enough to break current encryption standards. Unlike AGI (a gradual capability shift), Q-Day is binary: one day encryption works, the next day it doesn't. What breaks instantly: Bitcoin, RSA encryption, military communications, historical records, digital identity. Q-Day is the fulcrum between the falling dominoes and the five futures. The single most impactful moment in human history.
ExampleAI acceleration compresses classical 2035 timelines to 2028-2030. When Q-Day arrives, every 'secure' system built in the last 40 years breaks simultaneously. The question 'Who controls post-Q infrastructure?' determines which of the five futures we enter.
Related: AI-Quantum Convergence · The Great Rupture · Quantum Yuan · Five Futures
Quantum Yuan
China's digital currency (e-CNY) secured by quantum key distribution (QKD). In post-Q-Day scenarios, the Quantum Yuan becomes a primary USD alternative for international settlement because it's immune to quantum attacks.
ExampleBRICS nations pilot Quantum Yuan settlement for oil trades. QKD-secured trade corridors between Shanghai and Dubai become operational.
Related: Q-Day · AI-Quantum Convergence · Cascade
Skin-in-the-Game Markets
Prediction markets (like Polymarket or Kalshi) where people bet real money on outcomes. Wrong predictions cost money, which tends to produce more accurate forecasts.
ExampleIf Polymarket shows 65% odds of a Trump victory, that reflects what people are willing to bet money on—not just surveys.
Related: Market Comparison · Calibration
The Great Rupture
Another name for Q-Day. Emphasizes that this is not a market correction or gradual shift, but a civilizational phase transition where the rules that govern trust, money, security, and identity break simultaneously. AGI is a slope; Q-Day is a cliff.
ExampleThe rupture is predictable—high confidence it occurs 2028-2032. The aftermath is not—zero confidence on what happens after. This is the honest limit of forecasting.
